Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp were hit by a massive outage on Monday, tracking sites showed.
Reports on DownDetector.com which only tracks outages by collating status reports from a series of sources, showed the outages appear to be widespread.
As a results, this outage has impacted tens of millions of users across the globe.
So, if you have been failing to connect, it is definitely not your internet connection or that your data is depleted.
The three apps which are all owned by Facebook and run on a shared infrastructure stopped working around 5pm (SA time).
Users trying to access Facebook were greeted with the message: “Something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can.”
What Caused Facebook, Instagram and Facebook to Crash?
It is not yet clear what caused the crash of the apps and users took to other social media apps like Twitter to voice out their frustrations.
On twitter the following hash-tags have been trending; WhatsApp, DeleteFacebook, Zuckerberg and facebookdown.
“We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products,” Facebook said on Twitter. “We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologize for any inconvenience.”
