The Checkers Money Market is ideal when you want to send money to someone without a bank account. It is a convenient service that is designed to reduce waiting times and expensive transfer fees.
Whilst most banks in South Africa have cash sending services such as FNB’s famous e-wallet, the sender needs to hold an account in order to be able to send the money.
However, with Checkers Money Market both sender and receiver don’t have to have any accounts.
How Does Checkers Money Market Work?
Visit your nearest Checkers or Shoprite store and present your original green book or card ID to our teller with the amount you wish to transfer. Select a 4-digit PIN number for your Money Market transfer number and complete your transfer.
How To Send Money
- Go to any Money Market counter with your RSA bar-coded ID document.
- Ensure you have the cash amount that you want to send with you, along with the R9.99 fee.
- The cashier will scan your ID; please ensure that your information is correct, especially your cellphone number.
- You will be asked how much you want to send. Send up to R5 000 a day, or R25 000 a month for only R9.99.
- You must then select a PIN on the pinpad.
- The cashier will hand you a till slip with your Money Transfer number.
- Very important: The PIN that you have selected is only known to yourself.
- Keep this PIN safe and ensure you give it only to the intended recipient, together with the Money Transfer number.
How To Receive Money
- Visit your nearest participating outlet with your green book or card ID to collect any amount of up to R5 000 per day. Note, you can collect a total of R25000 per month from Money Market counters.
- Provide the teller with the Money Market transfer and PIN number you received from the sender and collect your money.
