    Absa Online: Is Absa Online Banking Safe?

    Absa online is a term which is often used by Absa Bank and its clients. But what is Absa online? The simple answer is that it is the online platform on the internet where as an Absa client you can do online / internet banking.

    The purpose of this article is to highlight some of the transactions that can be done on Absa online. Also, if you are using any of the Absa products, we will also tell you the benefits that you get from using this platform.

    You can have access to Absa online and link up to 99 accounts. Here is a list with example of accounts that can be managed online;

    • Transactional accounts
    • Credit card accounts (see article Absa Credit Card)
    • Home loan accounts (see article Absa Home Loans)
    • Absa Share Trading
    • Personal loan accounts
    • Absa Rewards
    • Saving and investment accounts
    • Absa Investment Management
    • Car finance account (see article Absa Vehicle Finance)
    • Absa Unit Trust

    In addition, you can also apply for the following accounts in real time. And, if they get approved, you’ll be able to transact at the end of your online banking session:

    1. On the Absa website home page click on Logon in the top right of the screen
    2. Click Register
    3. On the Absa Online Registration page, enter your details and the code on the screen
      Click Next
    4. Enter your cellphone number, Vehicle Finance Account number and ID number
      (Enter your ATM card number and PIN for bank account holders)
      Click Next
    5. Select the account to be charged
      Enter your email address and select your title
    6. Read and accept the Personal Client Agreement
      Click Next
    7. Under the Absa Online Security Information section, choose a strong 5-digit PIN
      Confirm the PIN for Absa Online
      Click Register
    8. Confirm SureCheck
    9. You are now registered to use Absa Online Banking

    Absa Banking App

    The Absa Banking App is the smartest and safest way to bank.

    You can get the banking app on Google-play for android and on the App store for iOS.

    On the Absa banking app you are able to perform multiple transactions. For example, you can pay your beneficiaries, buy airtime or electricity.

    The best part of it is that there are no subscription fees or registration fees. Just install it and get started.

    You’ll be happy to know that transacting on the Absa banking app is secure. In fact, this banking App has been rated by users as one of the top banking apps in South Africa.

    To get started with the Absa banking app, you need either an Android or iOS smartphone to begin with. Also, you’ll need a registered cellphone number, your ATM card and PIN and lastly your account number.

    If you have all these available, you are good to go!

    TIP: During the registration process you will be asked to create a 5-digit PIN. Make sure you keep this PIN to yourself or in a secure place. If anyone gets hold of it, they will be able to transact on the banking app.

    Absa Cellphone Banking

    Absa cellphone banking allows you to make money transfers from any phone.

    You can perform other transactions such as buy airtime and electricity via cellphone banking.

    TIP: If you ever lose your phone or its stolen, immediately notify Absa so that they can block any transactions via cellphone banking.

    To register for Absa cellphone banking you can follow the following steps;

    1. Add the Absa Cellphone Banking number *120*2272# to your contacts
    2. Dial the Absa Cellphone Banking number from your contact list to begin your registration
    3. Select 1 to proceed
      Tap Send
    4. Select 1 to accept the terms and conditions
      Tap Send
    5. Enter either your SA ID number or your passport number and
      Tap Send
    6. Enter a 5-digit numeric PIN
      Tap Send
    7. You have successfully registered

    Conclusion

    So, what is the answer to the question is Absa online banking safe? The short answer is yes, it’s safe.

    TIP: Phishers will always try and take you to sites that are not the office Absa site, so always be careful and check that you are on the official site. One way, is by checking is the site has https (Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure) in the address bar which is used for secure communication over the internet.

    Fortunately, most browsers can now pick up if a site poses a threat. However, never leave anything to chance and always double-check to avoid disappointment.
