North Korean leader Kim Jong Un says his country is building an invincible army in order to prevent war. He says a military build-up will “prevent war and protect national sovereignty”.
His remarks were reported by North Korea’s state media on Tuesday.
While making his remarks, Kim Jon Un was standing next to a variety of weapons, including the country’s intercontinental ballistic missiles.
Kim Jong Un said his country’s weapons development is necessary in the face of hostile policies from the United States and a military build-up in South Korea.
Pyongyang was only increasing its military in self-defence and not to start a war, Kim told a defence exhibition on Monday, North Korea’s official KCNA news agency reported.
The exhibition marked the 76th anniversary of the founding of the ruling Worker’s Party and was the first of its kind since Kim took power in 2011.
Footage Of North Korean Soldiers Performing Stunts Before Kim Jong Un Goes Viral
In the meantime, a video that shows shirtless North Korean soldiers performing stunts in front of leader Kim Jong Un has gone viral.
State television footage showed a smiling Kim clapping as shirtless soldiers used their hands to smash bricks placed on colleagues’ chests.
The footage also showed others breaking chains wrapped around their bodies in shows of strength.
In addition, the footage showed another soldier who could be seen charging into a set of concrete tiles with his head, breaking them.
The footage was shared by North Korea-focused journalist and researcher Martyn Williams on Twitter.
However, many Twitter followers were not impressed with the display saying breaking concrete tiles would have little meaning on the battlefield.
Are you impressed by the display?
This demonstration at the Defence Development Exhibition was bit intense. Video broadcast today on North Korean TV. pic.twitter.com/zehpI6EAEd
