Steve Komphela has confirmed that he has joined Mamelodi Sundowns after his sudden resignation at Golden Arrows on Sunday.
The former Kaizer Chiefs mentor signed as a senior coach at Masandawana and will work alongside joint head coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rulani Mokwena. These two were appointed after the shock resignation of former mentor Pitso Mosimane.
Mosimane resigned and joined Egyptian giants Al Ahly where he has been offered a two-year contract.
“I would like to express my deep gratitude to the Chairperson of Lamontville Golen Arrows, Mato Madlala and to Golden Arrows FC for their support and encouragement whilst I was the head coach,” the statement read.
“Mato Madlala and Arrows contributed to my development and growth in football and I will forever be grateful to her and Golden Arrows.
“I have been given an exciting opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns as a senior coach to work with its joint head coaches Manqoba Mngqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.
“I look forward to this exciting challenge and hope to contribute to the growth and success of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa and on the African continent.”
In the meantime, the Brazillians also posted a tweet welcoming Komphela to the club.

Komphela’s First Impressions On First Day At Sundowns
Steve Komphela has said he was blown away by the smell of success and confidence that oozes through at Chloorkop after his first training session with Mamelodi Sundowns following his appointment as a “senior coach” on Monday.
“I have worked with some of the superstars here. But it was amazing to come across the cream that you meet at the training ground‚ it is unbelievable‚” said the 53-year-old coach after his first day at Chloorkop.
Downs will kick off their season with a crunch match in the MTN8 quarterfinal against Bloemfontein Celtic in Atteridgeville (6pm) on Sunday‚ the same team they defeated in controversial fashion last month to lift the Nedbank Cup trophy.
